Richard N. Van Dresar, age 80, of Rome, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2014, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with his loving family at his side.
He was born August 20, 1933, in Rome, a son of Harold S. and Lois Sisbower Van Dresar, and educated in Rome schools. Richard was united in marriage to the former Patricia Dailey, in the Wesleyan Methodist Church, a blessed marriage of 55 years. He was employed at the former RADC at Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring after many years of service. Richard proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rome Elks and Henry P. Smith Post, American Legion. He also had a longtime interest, and spent many years researching his family genealogy.
Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Tamra Spencer of Wrightsville, PA; two sons and daughters in law, Robert and Mary Lynn Van Dresar of Sherrill, and Mark and Heather Van Dresar of Pensacola, FL; two sisters, Barbara Bentley and Don Chilson, of Stuart, FL, and Carol Tallarino of Rome; grandchildren, Heather and Alisha Redmond, Cortney, Kendyl, Robert, and Megan Van Dresar; a great granddaughter, Emma Rose Redmond; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Edith Clair and two brothers, Stuart and Thomas Van Dresar.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 7:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday 4 to 7 PM, prior to the funeral service.
