Obituary for Victor "Vic" Nigro

Victor Nigro age 87, of Rome, passed away peacefully, August 29, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Syracuse.

He was born January 21, 1928, in the Bronx, a son of the late Archangelo and Maria Volpe Nigro, and was educated in New York City schools. Victor was united in marriage to the former Joan Daley, on June 29, 1957, in the Incarnation Church in Manhattan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and received the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal. He worked for many years as a bus driver for the Varsity Bus Company in New York City, and later for NAPA in Colonie, and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department in Volusia County, FL. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, life member of the Rome VFW and 25 year member of the Colonie Elks.

Victor is survived by his wife, Joan; son and daughter in law, Thomas and Marcia Nigro of Waterford, ME; grandchildren, David Nigro, Katie Nigro Knorr and her husband, Peter Knorr, and Thomas and Melissa Nigro, and six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews who he treated as his own children, Janet and Ronald Townsend, Roy S. Kangas and Joanne and William Daley. He was predeceased by three brothers.

The family wishes to sincerely thank Victor’s niece, Joanne Daley, who spent most of her summer assisting Victor, with rides to appointments, great care, friendship and love during his illness.

A Memorial Mass with Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio, officiating, will be held Friday at 9:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial with full military honors will be in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.
