Obituary for Karen E. Deane (Hall)

Karen E. Deane, age 65, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2016, at the Oneida Healthcare Center.

She was born December 15, 1950, in Rome, a daughter of Alfred C. and Elizabeth Ann Simpson Hall, and educated in Rome schools. Karen worked for many years at St. Peter’s Church and St. Paul’s Church in Rome. She also served as a chef for the Elders at the Oneida Indian Nation. She was a member of St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s Parish in Rome.

Karen had an infectious laugh and will always be remembered for her sense of humor and ability to make everyone around her smile; she leaves so many wonderful memories. She was the kind of person that would do anything for you. She also had a deep love for her family and friends.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Wong and his associates and everyone on the oncology floor of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse for the exemplary care and compassion shown to Karen during this very difficult illness.

Karen is survived by three daughters and son in law, Rachel E. Viekko of Napa, CA, Kerri Viekko of Shingle Springs, CA and Brittany and Joshua Clemons of Stittville, NY; a sister, Lori Alessi of Rome; a brother, William Hall of Half Moon, NY; grandchildren, Jayden Bonanza, with whom she had a special bond, Easton, Clemons, Lucas Clemons, Gabriella Clemons, Sabrina Parks, Ashley Viekko and Tori Castaneda; six nieces and two nephews; her friendly cat, Gadget; a very dear lifelong friend, Cheryl Clark, who has gone above and beyond to tirelessly help care for both Karen and Gadget; the family is forever grateful. She was predeceased by a son, Christian Rich.

A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn, will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church.
