Mark S. Johnson, age 62, of Rome, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017, with his loving family at his side.
He was born May 6, 1955, in Rome, a son of the late George L. and Stella Frankow Johnson, and graduated from Adirondack Central School. Mark was united in marriage to the former Candice Pugh, on October 28, 2016, in Westernville, though their relationship began 27 years prior. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the NYS Parks Department, serving at Lake Delta State Park and formerly at Verona Beach State Park. He was a member of the Sons of the Westernville American Legion, Post 1846 and a life member of the Stanwix Veteran and Men’s Club.
Mark had a goodhearted and friendly personality. He always had the ability to lift everyone’s spirit with his generous sense of humor and kindness. He was also an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan. Lastly, he was a very talented handyman who truly could fix anything.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Candice; two sisters, Barbara E. Townsend of Rome, and Marilyn A. Zalatan of Atlanta, GA; a brother and sister in law, Wayne G. and Judith Johnson of Taberg; sisters in law and a brother in law, Kimberly and Mark Sweet of Westernville; Kelly Wilcox of Rome; several nieces and nephews; his dog, Chaser and his fish, Digger.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Westernville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday 4 to 7PM.
