Obituary for Rada Greasley (Flückiger)

Rada Greasley, age 91, passed away with her son, Ian, by her side, on August 24, 2017.

Rada was born September 27, 1925 in Moscow, USSR, the first daughter of Julia (Walz) Flückiger and Walter Flückiger. She fled with her family to Switzerland around 1937. There Rada went to school and on to college to become a handy crafts teacher. In her mid-20s, she immigrated to the US, settling initially in New York City. She travelled across the country, ending up in San Francisco, where she met her future husband, Harry. Back in New York State, Rada spent two decades in childhood education, most notably running the nursery school at Dewitt Community Church in Dewitt, and as a Kindergarten teacher at the Albany Academy in Albany. In 1977, she moved to Switzerland with her family where she taught handy crafts to children, and English and Russian to adults. In 1994, she moved back to the US, settling in Florence, NY.

In Florence, Rada spent summers in her beloved garden, and winters rug hooking. Year round she enjoyed being with her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Rada is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Nadia Greasley of Florence, and their two children, Lucie and Cyrille; her siblings Freni, Trudy, Alice, and Walter from Switzerland, along with their many children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 1 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Higby Road in Utica, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WCNY, 415 W. Fayette St.,
