John (Jack) F. Carroll, age 93, of Rehoboth Beach, DE and formerly of Rome, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017.
Jack was born in Utica on May 12, 1924 to the late John and Edith Giddings Carroll. He graduated from Utica Free Academy and Clarkson University. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. On August 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Rose Marie Creedon at St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville; a blessed union of over 58 years until her passing on April 11, 2005. John worked as a Reliability Physicist for RADC.
An avid golfer, he could be found on most summer days walking Teugega Country Club. During the winter he was frequently skiing at Woods Valley. One of his fondest memories was traveling to Europe and skiing the Alps with his family. His love of science contributed to his volunteer work for the annual Rome science fair.
John is survived by a son and daughter in law, John and Kathleen Carroll of DE; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Shelia; and a sister and brother in law, Kathleen and Richard Blachowiak of Endicott, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Brown; and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Carroll.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Kelly officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Waterville.
