Harry G. “Barry” Schrefer, age 56, of Rome, passed away suddenly on October 27, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.
Barry was born in Plattsburgh, NY on February 14, 1961 to Harry Sr. and Marlene Mantelli Schrefer. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Utica College. Barry was currently employed at BNY Mellon as a business systems analyst.
Barry was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes, playing guitar, and watching baseball. His biggest joy however was organizing family dinners and barbecues.
Barry is survived by his mother, Marlene; a daughter and son in law, Kelly and Dave Borst of Syracuse; a son, Harry G. Schrefer III of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Debra Meade of Rome; aunts and uncles, Charlotte Lauthner of OK, Robert and Barbara Mantelli, Paul and Suzanne Mantelli, Kathleen Stevens, and Sylvia Mantelli; and several cousins, including Joe Vendetti, Skip and Paula Schrefer, Valerie Slachciak, and Sandra Bunal. He was predeceased by his father in 2016; and two brothers, Harry R. and Michael J. Schrefer.
He will be greatly missed by his family and especially by his friends and co-workers at BNY Mellon.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center, with Rev. Robert L. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Joseph’s Church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the mass.
