Obituary for William S. Doyna

William S.  Doyna
William S. Doyna, age 69, of Rome, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2017, at St. Luke’s Healthcare, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bill was born in Rockville Centre, NY on September 22, 1948 to the late Robert and Virginia Spaeth Doyna. He graduated from Commack High School and took several classes at MVCC. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On August 26, 1972, he was united in marriage to the former Jessica Coleman at St. Mary’s Church in Rome. Billy worked at Bartell Manufacturing as a machinist and retired after 43 years.

Bill was active in cub scouts, including Pack 8 at Transfiguration where he was a scout leader. In 1988, he earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Toccolana Club and enjoyed playing Bocce. Bill and Jessica also loved traveling to different casinos, take cruises, and vacation at the ocean.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jessica; two sons and daughters in law, Keith and Debra Doyna of Whitesboro, and James and Georgeann Doyna of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Allison and Griffin; a sister, Marijane (Terry) Rhinebold; two brothers, Robert (Don Smith) Doyna, and Wallace (Millie) Doyna; a brother in law, Douglas Coleman; and four sisters in law, Teresa Cardwell, Jaye Coleman, Ann Fayette, and Mary Lou Roux; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
