John Edward Donahue, age 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully at his home on November 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 4, 1929, in Rome, a son of the late George and Ester Byam Donahue, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. John was united in marriage to the former Janet A. Lincourt on September 25, 1954, in St. Mary’s Church; she died on May 18, 2014. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked with his dad at Byam’s Gravel Bed, as a crane operator.
John is survived by three daughters and two sons in law, Diane and Bill Rostiser of Floyd, Karen Bloodworth of Marshall TX, and Nancy and Scott Weigel of Virgina Beach, VA; a son and daughter in law, John E. Jr, and Kimberly Donahue of Rome; brothers and sisters, Peter and Cora Donahue, George and Marge Donahue, Timothy and Bernie Donahue, Sheila and the late Edward Dake, and Cathy and Sam St. Thomas; grandchildren, Owen and Tonya Rowlands, Morgan and Curt Harrington, Nathan Rowlands, Lisa and Steven Dartone, Amanda Weigel, William Weigel, Patrick Weigel, Sarah Weigel, William and Julie Bloodworth, and Michael and Stephanie Bloodworth. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Ann Brodock, Patricia Cerjan and Thresa Zalinski; a son in law, William Bloodworth; and his stepmother, Julia Carmody Donahue.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Robert L. Kelly, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Paul’s Church, from 12 Noon to 1 PM prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Ava Dorfman Senior Center or the Veterans Administration Clinic at the Donald Mitchell Center at Griffiss.
