James “Jim” Witchley, age 80, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born March 28, 1937, in Rome, a son of the late Philip and Charlotte Morris Witchley and graduated from VVS in 1955. Jim was united in marriage to the former Myrtle Megerell on October 10, 1991, in Rome. He was the owner and operator of Witchley Manufacturing in Verona, and also drove bus for the VVS School District for 33 years. He formerly owned a logging business with his brother Frederick.
Jim’s life was centered in his love and care for his family. His strength, will and love came from his strong Christian faith. In his spare time, Jim’s hobbies included carpentry and woodworking.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle; daughters and a sons in law, Linda and Michael Carney of Vernon, Sue Wilkinson of Verona, Judy Stephens of Sherrill, Mary Parker of Vernon, Nancy Witchley of Vernon, Tammy Waszkiewicz of Taberg, and Heather and Josef Holley of Norman, OK; sons and a daughters in law, Joe Waterman of Rome, David and Patty Waterman of McConnellsville, and Matthew and Kris Waterman of Lee Center; an honorary daughter, Nancy Shimmel of Fayetteville; a sister in law, Karen Witchley of Fort Worth, TX; 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Miller and Ann Sewell; and two brothers, Enoch and Frederick Witchley; a son in law, Michael Dalzell; and a granddaughter, Amanda Wilkinson
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in the spring at New Union Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 12 Noon to 3 PM, prior to the funeral service.
