Harry L. Clapper
Harry L. Clapper, age 80, of the Town of Floyd, passed away after a brief illness at Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse, on April 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 17, 1937, in Sylvan Beach, a son of the late Harry and Dorothy Starring Clapper; and attended Camden schools. Harry was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth “Betty” Huey on January 18, 1958, at St. Leo’s Church in Holland Patent. He was employed by the CNYDSO and retired from the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church and a member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department.

Harry and Betty enjoyed many beautiful trips to Cape Cod; often staying at the same Hotel and room, year after year. He also was an avid NASCAR fan and drove race cars in his younger days at the old Utica-Rome Speedway.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; two sons and daughter in law, Harry A. Clapper of Holland Patent, and James D. and Brenda Clapper of Floyd; two sisters and a brother in law, Dorothy and Luther Guy of N.C., and Carol Avery of N.Y.; two brothers and sister in law, George and Cindy Clapper of CO., and Richard Clapper of AZ.; grandchildren, Nicole and Kevin Quesnell, and Samantha Clapper; a great granddaughter, Shea Lynne Quesnell (born on January 17, 2018); step grandchildren, Licia, Amanda and Allie; step great grandchildren, Samantha, Isabella and James; sister in laws and brothers in law, Marlene Franklin of TX., Mary Joyce and William Heinzlmeir of KY., Sandra Casedei and her companion, Joe Gawarecki of Rome, Alston Jr., and Patricia Huey of Floyd, Ronald and Lynn Huey of AL., and Terry P. Huey of Floyd; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in law and mother in law, Alston J. and Salome Huey, sister, Ruby Risedorph and brothers, Raymond and Donald Clapper.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery in Stittville.
