Obituary for Carl R. Cramer Jr.

Carl R.  Cramer Jr.
Carl R. Cramer, Jr., age 71, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2018.

He was born May 2, 1947, in Baltimore, a son of the late Carl R. Sr., and Ann Kathryn White Cramer. He graduated from Catsonville High School, in Catsonville, MD., and attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. Carl was united in marriage to the former Thelma M. Larson on December 13, 1969, in Honolulu, HI. He served 20 years in the Air Force, spending many years as a B-52 crew chief; then became a Quality Control Supervisor. He was on MSET (Maintenance Standardization Evaluation Team) at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE for 2 years. He was stationed at Hickham AFB, HI, Loring AFB, ME, Griffiss AFB, NY, Udorn, Thailand, Offutt AFB, NE, and retired from Griffiss AFB in 1986.

After his Air Force retirement, Carl went on to become Director of Quality Assurance at Bus Industries (later Daimler Chrysler) for 191/2 years. His final position was the Director of Operations at Oriskany Manufacturing.

Carl was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, loved to hunt small game, and loved his Chocolate Labrador, Coco. He also loved model trains and had a layout in the house all year. Carl also enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife of 48 years, attending his granddaughter’s softball games, and for over 30 years he loved playing Santa Claus for local children. He was a good man with a generous heart.

Carl is survived by his wife, Thelma; a daughter and son in law, Michelle Ann and Brett G. Batson of Westmoreland; a son, Timothy A. Cramer of Oakland, CA; granddaughters, Ashley McCoy and Ellen N. Batson; great grandson, Frank McCoy; a sister in law, Elizabeth A. Larson Silber and Robert Silber; a brother in law, John Puls; and a nephew, John E. Puls. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol N. Cramer Puls and a niece Nicole Puls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. Burial with Military honors will be in Westmoreland Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Church from 10 am to 11 am prior to the funeral.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
