Joyce E. Wittmann, age 76, of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2018 at Upstate Medical Center after a brief illness.
Joyce was born in Rome on June 27, 1941; a daughter to the late William and Florence Hall. She was educated in the Rome Schools and worked as a CNA at Rome Hospital. She was formerly married to the late Donald E. Wittmann.
Joyce loved reading, listening to and singing Christian music, and knitting. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She also had a strong faith in God and felt the happiest when she was at church.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Alicia Shepherd of Rome, and Cathy (Kevin) Parker of Glens Falls; five sons, Steven (Robyn) Sheffield of SC, Paul (Janet) Sheffield of VA, Donald (Donna) Wittmann of VA, Edward Wittmann of Rome, and Scott Wittmann of OK; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially her granddaughters, Ariela, Serana, and AnnaMarie, whom she was close to; a brother, Kenneth Burley; and her cat, Baby Girl. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Sheffield; and a sister, Betty Burley.
Joyce’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 to 1 prior to the funeral.
