Russell Alan Hurley, Sr., age 67, of Rome, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018.
He was born April 9, 1951, in Rome, a son of the late William and Rosemarie Mercurio Hurley. He graduated from Morrisville-Eaton schools, attended SUNY at Delhi and graduated from SUNY P.I. with a degree in Business Public Management. Russell was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Henderson, on May 1, 1981, in Kirkville, NY. He worked as a senior systems analyst for Penn Traffic in Syracuse, retiring after years of service. He also contracted with the State of Massachusetts and initiated a program to track down “dead beat dads” for child support. Massachusetts was extremely impressed with his knowledge and ability to accomplish the job. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1971-1979. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church.
Russell earned his private pilot’s license and loved to fly. He also enjoyed music and playing the guitar.
Russell is survived by his wife, Kathleen; a daughter and son in law, Deborah and Brian Wade of Freeville, NY; three sons, Christopher Selva of Rome, David Hurly of Columbus, OH, and Russell A. Hurley, Jr., and fiancée Theresa Andrus of Rome; a sister, Rozanne D’Aconto of Clinton; a brother, Peter Hurley of W. Virginia; his mother in law, Frances Henderson of Rome; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by a grandson, Brandon Selva.
Private funeral service will at New Hope Christian Church in Oneida. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the Town of Lee.
