Hubert l. Jones, 97, of Rome and Town of Lee, passed away peacefully April 3, 2015, at Sunset Nursing and Rehab Center in Boonville.
He was born July 16, 1917, in Niagara Falls, a son of the late William and Maude Lampman Jones, and educated in Sherrill schools. Hubert was united in marriage to the former Marion Lawton on June 30, 1940, a blessed marriage of over 60 years, until her death in 2002. In his younger years, He worked at Wardwell Hardware in Rome. He later worked and retired from Rome Iron Mills. Hubert also served as the Town of Lee Park Keeper for several years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Masons.
Hubert enjoyed building wishing wells during his spare time, and many wishing wells still can be seen around the Rome area. He was an avid CB and short wave radio enthusiast and was known as “Ironman” or “Jonesy”.
Hubert is survived by two sons, Wilbur Jones of Rome, and Philip Jones of Rome; grandchildren, Terry Jones, Crystal Suminguit, Lindsay Swab, Martin Flint, Kelly Flint, Lauri Gualandi, Mike, Ron and Tom Hrynuk; and 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Flint, daughter in law, Carol Jones, great granddaughter, Lillianna Suminguit and all his sisters and brothers.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 4 to 7 PM, prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Point Rock Methodist Church.
