Obituary for John D. Uhlig

Jack (John) D. Uhlig, age 65, of Rome, passed away peacefully on September 24,
2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Utica, to the late Evelyn Uhlig Perkins. He graduated from
Remsen Central School, where he was a star athlete. Jack excelled at sports
including basketball and baseball. He was also a talented artist, and enjoyed
drawing and sketching. Jack entered the service in 1968 and served until 1971.
He pursued his secondary education at Utica College, graduating with a degree in
Psychology. After graduating, Jack worked at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center
for 37 years. Jack continued to participate in the sports he loved, long after his school years, volunteering his time as a referee and umpire for local sports teams. He enjoyed playing golf and following all sports, especially college basketball, his Dallas Cowboys, and theLA Dodgers.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, and was grateful for the
opportunities when all his family could get together. He was especially proud
of the recent addition to his family, his grandson, Jionni Chambrone.

John is survived by his love, Gineal Merritt; a daughter and son in law,
Jennifer and Michael Chambrone of Utica; grandchildren, Jionni, Brian,
Abby, Colton, Katia, and Khalif; and two sisters, Charlene and Joseph Krump, and
Janice and Rick Grubb; and two special nieces, Sarah and Justin Hipps and Rachel Grubb. Jack also leaves behind a special childhood friend, Charlie West.

The family wishes to thank the McDonald family, the family of Gineal Merritt,
and all the staff at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for their care and compassion
expressed to John during his illness.

As per John’s wishes, funeral services will be private.

There are no calling hours.
