Cathy A. Newman, age 59, of Waddington, NY passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015, after a long battle with a severe illness.
Cathy was born at Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA on December 14th 1955, to Thomas J. and Jannine Fosnaugh Mazuzan. She graduated from Rome Free Academy. She was united in marriage to Ronald Newman and though they had gone their separate ways, they continued to remain close friends.
Cathy was an avid runner and participated in several Boilermakers and completed a half marathon. She loved to read, enjoyed long walks and had a great sense of humor. Cathy was a talented artist. She created unique pieces of macramé artwork and designed beautiful jewelry. She took pride in her job as an LPN, caring for patients at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and valued the friendships she made there.
Cathy is survived by her longtime companion, Kevin Butler, a daughter and son in law, Keely and Sol Elta of Derry, NH; three sons and a daughter in law, Christopher and Elena Newman of Morganville, NJ, Logan Newman of Utica, and Floyd Smith of Waddington, NY; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews; two sisters and brother in laws, Megan and Todd McCollough of Auburn, ME, and Erin and Bruce Bowen of Holland Patent; and a brother, Matt Mazuzan of Auburn, ME. She was predeceased by her sister, Beth Mazuzan Wilcox and her mother, Jannine Fosnaugh Mazuzan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday November 6th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
