William H Carey Jr. aged 66 of Camden, passed away September 6, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born July 18, 1950 in Rome, the son of William H. Carey Sr. and Mary Joan LaGasse. Bill (Buff) attended VVS schools.
Bill spent most of his life as a mechanic and was an avid ‘Muscle Car’ enthusiast. He worked at several local garages including Herrig’s Auto and Amo’s Auto Dismantling. He retired in 2006 from New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Taberg Residential Facility.
Bill devoted his younger years to the New London Fire Department. He was a past chief and lifetime member, giving freely of his time in service to the community.
On November 1, 1975 he married Barbara Ann Stevenson at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are, the love of his life, his wife, Barbara, three sons, William H. Carey III, Rome, Jeremy and Tonya Carey, Rome and Steven Carey, Munnsville; two daughters, Cathy Ann Carey Nutting, Camden, ‘Jillbilly’ Jillian Carey and William Larsen, Rome. A special son-in-law, Michael Nestle, Camden; two brothers, George (Debbie) Carey, Co., and Randy (Robin) Carey, Camden; five sisters, Mrs. Carolyn (Howard dec.) Prosser, Debra Carey, SC., Ruth Carey, Rome, Patti Carey, SC. , Kelly Ross, Rome. A special sister-in-law, Linda VanSlyke; four brothers/sisters-in-law, Patty MacFarlane, CO., Lyle Jr. and Nelda Stevenson, IN, Linda and David Dishlacoff, Camden, Carol and Stephen Arbes, GA; eight grandchildren, Caitlin, William 4th (Will), Kaylee, Abigail, Aislinn, Tori, Emily and Rebekah; forty-two nieces and nephews and forty-six great nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents.
Bill’s family would like to acknowledge the loving care and support he received from Donna Leonard and Nina Quick of VNA, and the special bond he had with his neighbors, Chuck and Joann Keegan.
Bill’s family is devastated by the sudden loss of this extraordinary man.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street in Rome.
