Karen Razzano Brandon

I am the third of Frank and Clare’s five kids: Brian, Mary, me, Matt and Ann. On behalf of our family I want to thank Father Hearn and Barbara Thomas for the beautiful mass for our dad. Dad would especially love the music. Brian Matt Ann and I want to express our gratitude to Mary and Mom for being Dad's loyal and loving caregivers at home. Our family thanks the Rome Hospital doctors and nurses for their kind care, and the compassionate and gentle caregivers at the Abraham House who kept our dad comfortable in his final days with family by his side. Family - our dad loved his family. Mom, the five of us, our kids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings, parents, in-laws, brother, sister, parents, uncles, aunts. He then fully embraced those whom each of us loved and made them family too. Our dad was not perfect. He told really corny jokes. Brian carries on this tradition. He made sure he voiced his opinion and he made sure we heard him. He made mistakes. But he found and offered joy. He was playful. He and Mom played basketball with us and picnicked with us. Dad swam with us at Boonville Gorge and Big Brook, ice skated with us and Mom in the rinks he made in our backyard each winter for the whole neighborhood. Dad brought us to 6am winter mass with Monsignor Buttimer at St Peter’s Church. Dad was compassionate. He was loyal and protective. He was strong and dependable. He was proud of serving his country. He was passionate about his professions. He believed his life insurance work with Metlife helped families in Rome, he loved running Razzano’s News & Variety with Mom and Mary in the heart of the city with Matt and Ann working for him, and he loved playing piano at places like the Savoy and the Beeches. It seemed like the whole city knew him. Our mom’s highest compliment of a person is when she says “they’d do anything for anyone”. That sums up our dad. He practiced this work ethic for almost 80 years. He believed in fairness. And he was fiercely independent. Dad was also a musician at heart. He taught us all to love music. Jazz, blues, big band, contemporary. He played them all on his piano, with total joy. He played every day for decades. We are blessed to have recordings of him playing. There is a verse from the second book of Kings that feels like it was written for Dad: "And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him.” (2 Kings 3:15) On behalf of the Razzano family, I want to thank all of you for honoring our dad.
