Jerome E. Alexander Sr., 82, of Floyd, NY, went to his eternal rest, with his loving family by his side, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
Jerome was born in Oakland, CA on October 13, 1935 to the late Antonio Alexander and Dorothy Costa. He attended Oakland Elementary School and graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1953. He was a charter member of The Floyd Vol. Fire Dept., spending many years developing it and even serving as chief and fire commissioner. He retired from The Town of Floyd Highway Dept. as Superintendent after over 37 years of dedication and service to the people of Floyd. He was especially proud when his son followed in his footsteps as Floyd Highway Superintendent. His love for his community made him well known and respected by many.
He was a master mechanic and an avid camper, loving the Adirondacks, and was a snowbird going to Indian Harbor Beach, FL with his motorhome. He loved woodworking in his workshop and was one of Santa’s helpers at The Floyd Fire Dept. He made wooden cars for Santa to give to the area children at Breakfast with Santa and from the firetruck. His family was his pride and joy and he even built the family home.
Jerome is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ethel; his daughters, Christine (Barry) Jennison of Ringgold, GA, and Shari (Lucian) Urbaniak of Edwardsville, PA; his son, Jerome Alexander Jr. (Sandra Farney) of Floyd; grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie (Nicholaus), Kristy (Richie), Lindsay, Nolan, Collin, and Alivia; and great grandchildren; Stella, Liliya and Lena, and another great grandchild on the way. He is predeceased his stepfather, Charles F. Bowman, and brothers, Anthony, Lawrence and Ronald Alexander.
Jerome’s family would like to thank all who took care of him at The St. Luke’s Home, St. Luke’s ICU and his wonderful home health nurses.
In keeping with Jerome’s wishes, funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery in the spring, at the convenience of the family.
